Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi made a working visit to Brebes to inspect the Tanjung Weigh Bridge in Brebes. Also attending the review were Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi and Director of Road Transportation Facilities Risal Wasal.
Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said that the weigh bridges currently managed by the Ministry of Transportation are expected to solve the problem of over-dimensional and overloaded trucks, which have the potential to endanger safety and damage roads.
For this reason, his party has taken steps to optimize the function of weigh bridges in supervising ODOL trucks. One of them is imposing an obligation to transfer cargo on ODOL trucks.
"Now we are changing the scheme, if we previously got a ticket, now it is done by transferring the cargo. If the ticket is only 150 to 200 thousand fines, it is very cheap and does not provide a deterrent effect and is not proportional to the losses caused by ODOL vehicles such as accidents. and road damage, "he said, Friday (12/3).
Budi revealed that the implementation of the cargo transfer scheme has received support from regional heads. "There have been many regional heads who support it, starting from Governors, Regents and Mayors. We still tolerate until 2023, logistic vehicles whose cargo exceeds up to 50 percent, we will transfer their cargo to other vehicles," he concluded.
